Our Award winning Youth Theatre has been running for 14 years and is for young people who have a deep interest in drama and are committed to being part of a theatrical organisation and a creative team.
Aimed at those excited about theatre and who are curious to find out more, not just as performers but all aspects of drama. Weekly workshops teach skills and experiment with ideas, while regular productions in the Studio or in the Main House challenge them to perform for real in an exciting theatre environment.
Sessions take place on Saturday mornings 10am until 1pm and although there is no cost we do ask for a voluntary contribution per annum. Our Youth Theatre offers a unique opportunity for 7 – 18 year olds to work with experienced actors and directors.
Our sessions include:
Confidence Builders
Voice Workshops
Movement Workshops
Characterisation Workshops
Team Building
Stage/Theatre Etiquette
We produce one full play a year in which the whole group takes part. In addition many of the young people take part in the annual panto as well as the remainder of the season, some ten plays.
Roy Palmer
As the founding member of the group, having established it in 1991 Roy brings over 30 years of experience to the Youth Theatre. Having directed over 50 productions on both the amateur and professional stage, Roy has guided and nurtured youth drama at HGLT with dedication which has, not surprisingly led to the group to appearing at the National Theatre.
